A 27-year-old man has been charged over the death of a three-year-old girl who was allegedly struck by an SUV in a Sydney driveway. The girl later died in hospital.
Emergency response in Auburn
Police confirmed that at about 2.05pm on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, emergency services were called to a home in the Sydney suburb of Auburn following reports a child had been hit by a car.
Officers from Auburn Police Area Command attended the property on Normanby Road, where they were told the girl had been hit by a four-wheel drive as it pulled into the driveway.
Child dies in hospital
Paramedics from New South Wales Ambulance treated the child at the scene before rushing her to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition. She later died as a result of her injuries.
The driver, a 27-year-old man, was uninjured. He was taken to Auburn Hospital for mandatory testing and, after his release, was taken into police custody.
Charge and court appearance
The man was charged at Auburn Police Station with negligent driving occasioning death. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on Wednesday, 16 September 2026.
