Kenneth Falconer, 31, appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted assaulting a police officer to her severe injury, as well as assaulting his father and breaching bail conditions. The incident occurred outside his parents' home in Balfron Crescent on May 10 this year.
Disturbance escalates into violent assault
Daisy Bentley, prosecuting, told the court that Falconer arrived at the property in an intoxicated state after 9pm. He was being loud, and when his father asked him to be quiet, Falconer began throwing objects around the house and cans of beer towards his father. He also punched his father multiple times on the body and head.
Mr Falconer's father tried unsuccessfully to restrain his son, and the disturbance continued for about two hours until he called 999. When police officers arrived, they found Falconer in the garden.
Officer's arm fractured during restraint
As officers attempted to handcuff Falconer, he began to pull at one officer, bending her wrist and applying pressure. Despite repeated requests to stop, he pushed the officer to the ground while twisting her wrist. The officer screamed in pain, stating she believed her arm was broken. A colleague called for emergency assistance, but Falconer was restrained before other officers arrived.
The injured officer was taken to hospital, where a fracture was confirmed. Falconer, a father of one, admitted previous convictions. Defence lawyer Ian Scott said Falconer's offending behaviour stemmed from the breakdown of a relationship. Scott stated: 'He has gone from being a law-abiding family man with a job to someone in jail for breaking a police officer's arm.'
Sentence deferred for background reports
Sheriff John Hamilton KC deferred sentence until next month for background reports and remanded Falconer in custody. The court heard that Falconer also breached bail orders designed to keep him away from his parents' home.
