Man admits making dogs fight wild animals in sick videos

Ryan Cringean, 25, has admitted making his dogs fight wild animals in what has been described as one of the worst cases recorded in Scotland. He appeared at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Wednesday, October 21.

Guilty Plea to 11 Charges

Cringean pleaded guilty to 11 charges involving serious animal fighting and welfare offences. The court heard how he filmed videos of his dogs biting and tearing apart wild animals, including badgers, foxes and squirrels.

The dogs sustained traumatic injuries during the ordeals, with one resulting in permanent disfigurement. The offending took place between June 2024 and February last year.

Investigation and Court Proceedings

The activity was uncovered when inspectors from the Scottish SPCA Special Investigations Unit received intelligence that Cringean was keeping dogs for animal fighting purposes. A warrant was granted to search his property.

Cringean was remanded in custody until sentencing next month. The Sheriff said: "This is serious behaviour over an eight-month period of time, where a young child was present in the background. It is difficult to comprehend the mindset for the behaviour and therefore I have no other option but to remand you in custody."

Reaction from the Scottish SPCA

A Scottish SPCA SIU Inspector said: "These videos show deliberate and horrific cruelty to dogs and wildlife. The animals attacked endured a long and torturous death. Today's outcome reflects the seriousness of the offences. We look forward to the sentencing."
