Man, 21, dies after house party brawl in Bahrs Scrub

A 21-year-old man from Redbank Plains died in hospital on Saturday, August 1, after being seriously injured in a house party brawl in the Logan suburb of Bahrs Scrub.

The man was hurt during a disturbance at a short-term rental house on Orchard Avenue on Sunday, July 26. Reports said the party was gatecrashed, and Queensland Police were called to the scene.

Police found significant damage

When officers arrived, they found “significant damage” throughout the street, including to several cars and a home. The injured man was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, where he died on Saturday.

Residents described fighting and disorder spilling through the estate, with reports suggesting two groups were involved. CCTV footage appears to show a man running away from the scene down the street at about 2.47am.

Targeted attack, police say

Logan Crime Group Detective Inspector Ian Galpin last week said an “all-out brawl” broke out between two rival groups, aged between 18 and 21, after one group crashed the party. “This was a targeted attack and there is no ongoing threat to the wider community,” he said.

“It appears to be a short-term accommodation rental property where some sort of party was occurring, and then at some stage in the night a second group arrived,” Inspector Galpin added. “Our inquiries suggest the second group was known to the occupants of the rental, and a conflict has begun, which kicked off quite a violent disturbance.”

Several vehicles were left with smashed windows and dents, while a nearby home also suffered shattered windows. Police said investigations remain ongoing and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
