A man was seriously injured after being attacked with a machete in a Glasgow pub, as horrified customers looked on. The incident occurred at Bells Bar in Springburn on Friday evening, around 11pm.
CCTV footage shows the attacker, wearing a hat and grey hoodie, entering the pub and pushing through customers singing karaoke. He approached a table where a 39-year-old man was seated, produced a footlong blade from behind his back, and struck the victim repeatedly. Blood splattered across the walls as the victim tried to shield his face.
The victim attempted to escape by jumping into a seating area, but the attacker continued the assault before fleeing with the blade. Many pubgoers were initially unaware of the attack, continuing to sing along to John Denver's 'Take Me Home, Country Roads'.
A witness described the attack as 'absolutely horrific and shocking', noting the sound of the machete making contact was terrifying. Police were called and the victim was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries, where he remains.
Police Scotland has launched an investigation and is appealing for information. A spokesperson said: 'Extensive enquiries are ongoing and officers remain in the area.' Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 4197 of 26 September.
