M6 crash kills one, injures two in North Staffordshire

One man has died and two others have been seriously injured in a crash on the M6 motorway in North Staffordshire. Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway between Junction 15 and Junction 16 near Newcastle-under-Lyme, with the incident reported at around 4am.

The crash involved three lorries and a car. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman described the scene: “On arrival a man, the driver of the car, was found in a critical condition. Sadly, it quickly became apparent, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Injuries and hospital treatment

A second man, a driver of a HGV, was found in a serious condition. He received specialist trauma care before being conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital under emergency driving conditions. A third man, also a driver of a HGV, was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital. A fourth man, a HGV driver, was assessed but sustained no injuries and was discharged at the scene.

Police appeal for footage

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 4.10am today (Monday 17 August) to the M6 northbound between junctions 15 and 16 following reports of a collision involving three lorries and a car. The driver of the car, a man, sadly died at the scene. His next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.”

They added: “We are appealing for anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the area at the time to contact us. Call 101, quoting incident 86 of 17 August, or use Live Chat on our website. To report anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

The M6 northbound was closed throughout much of Monday as a result of the incident.
