Daniel Kinahan Extradition 'Within Weeks' as UAE Set to Return Cartel Boss to Dublin
Kinahan Extradition Nears as UAE Prepares to Hand Him Over

Cartel member Daniel Kinahan is anticipated to return to Irish territory within weeks. Dublin Live has discovered that gardai are finalising arrangements for the 48-year-old cartel kingpin to potentially be transported back to Ireland from Dubai around mid-July.

Security Operation Underway

Preparations for a substantial security operation are in motion for the extradition following his detention in the United Arab Emirates in April. Gardai anticipate Kinahan will have been unsuccessful in his battle against the extradition, and UAE officials have signalled they are prepared to surrender him.

Currently he is being held in Dubai's notorious Al Awir Central Prison, where he'll celebrate his 49th birthday next Friday. However, sources reveal the UAE authorities are now keen to get rid of Kinahan - and that this also bodes poorly for his father Christy Sr and his brother Christy Jr.

One source revealed: "The Dubai Police want all the Kinahans gone. They don't want them there anymore."

Sanctions and Consequences

Christy Sr and his son Christy Jr were subjected to US sanctions back in April 2022, and a $5M reward for intelligence that could result in each of their prosecutions was announced at the time. Sources suggest this will make it progressively harder for the remaining Kinahans to secure refuge in other nations, though Christy Sr does maintain links in north Africa, reports Dublin Live.

Should his son's extradition proceed as anticipated, he is expected to arrive at Dublin's Casement Aerodrome in Baldonnel aboard the new government aircraft. The extraordinary operation will require armed garda teams and Defence Forces personnel.

Upon touchdown, Kinahan can anticipate being detained and charged on the runway with directing a criminal organisation, an offence carrying a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. He will subsequently be transported to the Special Criminal Court at Dublin's Criminal Courts of Justice on Parkgate Street for formal charging. Armed escorts are then anticipated to accompany the Irish Prison Service while conveying Kinahan to the high-security facilities of Portlaoise Prison in Co Laois.

He is expected to be housed on the prison's 'A' Block, where his close associate and confidant Sean McGovern has recently begun a 24-year sentence. Legal sources suggest Kinahan's trial is unlikely to commence until well into next year at the earliest.

Encrypted Communications

McGovern received his sentence last week for his involvement in directing a criminal organisation connected to the feud killing of innocent father-of-two Noel 'Duck Egg' Kirwan. He was additionally found guilty of surveillance and targeting of Hutch associate James 'Mago' Gately. McGovern, who served as Kinahan's most trusted ally, was caught partly through encrypted messages intercepted by gardai that revealed how he and fellow cartel associates conspired to kill Kirwan and targeted Gately.

Sources indicate some of those encrypted communications, discovered through cracking 'Pretty Good Privacy' devices, will form the backbone of the prosecution against Kinahan. Gardai believe they have grounds to suspect encrypted usernames identified as 'Bon Neww,' 'Bon4' and 'Cap' which contacted and issued instructions to McGovern and others during the peak of the feud, were operated by Daniel Kinahan.

In one exchange disclosed during McGovern's proceedings, the Special Criminal Court was told how McGovern informed 'Cap' after the Regency Hotel shooting in 2016 where Kinahan enforcer David Byrne was gunned down: "Mate I'm fuming I swear to God." What about doing Mink's daughter or will that bring too much heat?" 'Cap' subsequently replied, "Yes, but maybe only Neddie," in a text referring to Eddie Hutch, a sibling of Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch. Those communications were transmitted on February 7, 2017, merely one day before Eddie was eventually slain by the cartel at his residence in Poplar Row in Dublin.

Additional encrypted exchanges exposed the cartel scheme to monitor Gately was initially conceived in October 2015 and subsequently in 2017 'Bon Neww' instructed McGovern to pursue him. "Hate the horrible rat bag. Get Mago," Bon Neww (allegedly Kinahan) instructed McGovern in April 2017.

The cartel, believed to be valued at over €1 billion, is no longer thought to be active in this country. However, the international crime syndicate continues to be a prime focus for both the Gardai and the American DEA.
