Joey Barton is due to spend Christmas in prison after a bail application on his behalf was refused. The former Premier League footballer was due to face trial at Liverpool Crown Court last week, but the case was adjourned until next year.
Charges and Alleged Incident
Barton, 44, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with an alleged serious assault in March this year. The alleged victim, Kevin Lynch, was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.
He was said to have sustained injuries to his face and body. Barton has been refused bail since his arrest.
