Jeremy Clarkson has opened up about being bullied as a child and the harsh advice his mother gave him at the time. In his latest column for The Sun, the former Top Gear host and star of Clarkson's Farm recalled sobbing to his mother about the bullying, only to be told: "Well, if everyone is bullying you, you must be doing something wrong."
Mother's Brutal Words of Wisdom
Clarkson wrote that his mother's response, though harsh, ultimately helped him. He reflected: "Today, she'd be arrested for even thinking such a ridiculous thought. And so would all of the kids who'd been bullying me. And she'd be in jail with Sam Neill's mother for mental health abuse in the community. But I wonder. Did our parents have the right idea? And have we now lost the plot?" He added: "After my mother said I was being bullied because I was doing something wrong, I worked out that I was a bit of a prig."
Clarkson Hits Back at Chris Packham
The revelation comes after Clarkson labelled Springwatch presenter Chris Packham's remarks about Clarkson's Farm as "b******s." Packham had criticised the show during an episode of Celebrity Gogglebox on Channel 4, saying: "Already, right, that's not what a farm looks like. Most farms are horrible monocultures, which have been sprayed with deadly chemicals time and time again. The ground is pumped full of fertiliser, and loads of the animals are indoors in crates, being crushed and kept in the dark. That's an idealistic view of a farm, and it puts the wrong idea in people's minds. And that's only the titles!"
Packham's Visit to Diddly Squat Farm
Clarkson responded by revealing that Packham actually visited Diddly Squat Farm in 2012, spending the day in the woods "foraging and bird watching." Clarkson suggested that Packham ought to know better, having seen the farm firsthand.
