What to Expect from The Dark

The series follows Detective Monica Kennedy, played by Laura Donnelly, after a young man's body is discovered in the Scottish wilderness. As paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets are forced into the light, and the locals start to realise that there is a serial killer hidden amongst them.

Laura Donnelly, known for playing Jenny Fraser Murray in Outlander's first three seasons, leads the cast. She has also appeared in Marvel's Werewolf by Night, HBO's The Nevers, and Hulu's Say Nothing. Joining her are Mark Rowley (Trigger Point, The Last Kingdom), Helen Baxendale (Friends), and Emun Elliott (The Gold, Guilt).

Matt Hartley, who wrote and adapted the thriller, said: “ITV is home to some of the most iconic detective shows, so it is an honour to be writing The Dark and adding to that great canon of work. I am hugely grateful to Polly Hill [ITV’s Director of Drama] for her faith in me and excited to be working with her, alongside the brilliant producers at Poison Pen, to bring this new, distinctive crime thriller to life. I can't wait for viewers to meet the inimitable DI Monica Kennedy and to journey into the dark with her.”
