Karl Bishop, the man convicted of murdering Harry Potter actor Rob Knox, has been denied parole after serving 15 years of his life sentence. Bishop, now 37, was sentenced in 2009 to a minimum of 20 years for stabbing the 18-year-old actor five times outside a club in Sidcup, south-east London.
Knox, who played Marcus Belby in the film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, was killed after intervening to protect his younger brother Jamie from Bishop. The attack also left four of Knox's friends injured, including Dean Saunders, who suffered permanent spinal damage.
Bishop had a previous conviction for a knife attack and was under police investigation for robbery and burglary at the time of the murder. The Metropolitan Police later disciplined two officers and changed procedures following the case.
Knox's parents, Colin and Sally, have previously spoken of their grief and desire to honour their son's memory through a youth centre or acting sponsorship scheme. Bishop's parole denial means he will remain in prison until at least 2029.
