Harry Maguire Fined for Speeding; Two Teammates Accused

Harry Maguire has been fined for speeding for a second time, as two of his Manchester United teammates also face legal proceedings for similar offences.

Maguire's Speeding Offence

The 33-year-old England defender was caught driving his £130,000 Range Rover at 37mph in a 30mph zone in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, on December 28 last year. He previously received a 56-day road ban in January 2025 for speeding offences.

Maguire pleaded guilty in writing and was fined £1,000 at Tameside Magistrates' Court, along with three penalty points, £120 costs, and a £400 victim surcharge. He submitted a written apology, stating he mistakenly believed the limit was 40mph.

Teammates Also Prosecuted

Reserve goalkeeper Altay Bayindir was caught driving a Mercedes at 41mph in a 30mph zone in Hale Barns on November 24 last year, shortly after United's 1-0 defeat to Everton. He pleaded guilty and was fined £666 with three penalty points, £120 costs, and a £266 victim surcharge.

Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha faces charges of speeding and failing to identify the driver after his Mercedes was clocked at 37mph on the same road as Bayindir, hours after United's opening day loss to Arsenal. He has not yet entered a plea and faces a court hearing on December 16, where disqualification from driving may be considered.

Background

Maguire was left out of Thomas Tuchel's 26-man World Cup squad, a decision he described as 'shocking and gutting.' All three players had their cases handled privately by a single magistrate, without attending court.
