Gunmen fire on north London shopping centre, two injured

Two men have been injured in a shooting at a busy shopping centre in north London, and the gunmen remain at large.

Police were called to Angel Central, next to the O2 Academy Islington, where they found a 33-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, each with a gunshot wound. Both were taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, although the 33-year-old's injuries have been assessed as life-changing.

Police seal off Angel Central

The Angel Central shopping plaza has been sealed off by police while they carry out enquiries. No arrests have been made.

Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who leads policing in the area, said: "This was an incredibly reckless incident in a busy area close to a major venue and no doubt caused significant fear among members of the public.

"Violence has no place in our communities, and we are pursuing every available line of enquiry to identify those involved."

Increased police presence and appeal for information

Stewart added: "There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days, and anyone with concerns is urged to speak to officers.

"Angel Central remains partially closed as we conduct enquiries at the scene.

"We recognise the impact this has had, and we are grateful for the understanding and cooperation of the community and our partners."

Anyone with information who has not yet spoken to police is urged to contact 101.
