The alleged assault occurred in October 2025, with investigations beginning on October 17, 2025. The victim, a wedding guest, reported that she had consumed alcohol at the reception and planned to stay overnight at a Gettysburg residence with other attendees. She claimed that after most guests retired, Prouty made unwanted advances and kissed her without consent.
She moved to another room to avoid him, but he followed and continued his advances. She stated she lost consciousness and later awoke in an unfamiliar bedroom with her clothing scattered on the floor. She then sought medical attention, leading to a sexual assault examination at Gettysburg Hospital.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Prouty initially refused to provide a statement when contacted by police. However, investigators obtained a DNA sample from him, which they allege matched evidence from the victim's examination. He was arrested on multiple charges, including rape and sexual assault.
Prouty appeared in court on Thursday, July 16, 2026, and was released on $50,000 (£37,000) bail. His next court date is scheduled for August 12.
