Daphne Rutherford Suffers Broken Arm in Park Incident

Greg Rutherford's five-year-old daughter Daphne was rushed to hospital in an ambulance after a nasty accident at a park, leaving the Olympian terrified as he was 100 miles from home. The 2016 Strictly Come Dancing star and his fiancée Susie Verrill were in Southampton when they received the call that Daphne had broken her arm while being looked after in Milton Keynes.

Second Hospital Visit in Two Years

This marks the second hospital dash for Daphne in two years. In 2024, the family needed medical help after the tot struggled to breathe. Just two months prior, their seven-year-old son Rex was taken to A&E with appendicitis and had to have his appendix removed. Daphne also recently recovered from chicken pox before the accident.

Greg took to Instagram to share the news, posting a photo of Daphne cuddling a teddy in her hospital bed. He wrote: “Poor Daph it’s only been a minute since she went back to school after chicken pox (and only a day since me posting about it) and while me and @susiejverrill were in Southampton, we had a call to say she’d had an accident at a park and it looked like she’d broken her arm. And indeed she has broken radius and ulnar. Thanks so much to staff at Milton Keynes hospital for being incredible… she was so scared but they really put her at ease and she was made up with her matching broken arm-ed teddy. Home now and working out she can still do loads of stuff with just one arm.”

Family's Recent Health Ordeals

The Rutherford family has faced a series of health challenges. Rex's appendicitis required surgery, and Daphne's broken arm adds to the string of hospital visits. Susie Verrill was seen planting a kiss on Daphne's forehead before they could take her home. The couple, who have three children together—Rex, Milo, and Daphne—have been open about their family struggles.

Greg Rutherford on Sleep Divorce

Earlier this year, Greg revealed why he hasn't slept in the same bed as Susie for years. The Morning Live presenter filmed a feature for the BBC show following news that 16 percent of UK couples now sleep in separate rooms. He explained: "It's so important to me, in fact, a few years ago me and my partner decided we'd try separate beds to see how much we interrupt each other's sleep. I'll tell you what we haven't looked back."

Greg, who won the long jump gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2014 and 2016 European Athletics Championships, and 2015 World Athletics Championships, also topped the 2015 IAAF Diamond League rankings and was awarded an MBE in 2013 for his services to sport.
