A 13-year-old girl was allegedly spiked and gang raped while on her way to a water park in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand, India. The attack occurred on Monday, July 6, and police have launched a manhunt for four suspects.
Details of the Attack
The victim was waiting for an auto-rickshaw near Medicity Hospital when a man snatched her from the street and took her to a hotel near the Lalpur Toll Plaza. She was with a friend at the time, but the man separated the pair. At the hotel, the girl was given a cold drink laced with drugs, causing her to lose consciousness. The assailant then called three other men, who arrived and raped her. The gang held the victim overnight before releasing her the following morning.
Victim's Escape and Police Response
After being released around 11 a.m., the girl managed to reach a nearby shop and used a phone to call her mother. Her mother rushed to her and then contacted the police. Officers from the Rudrapur Kotwali station immediately registered a case and began an investigation. Superintendent of Police (City) Uttam Singh Negi said: "We have registered a case under the relevant sections of the law based on the mother's complaint. The investigation is moving forward using scientific and technical evidence, and our teams are currently conducting raids to arrest everyone involved."
Ongoing Manhunt
Detectives are gathering evidence from the hotel, reviewing CCTV footage, and tracking digital footprints to locate the attackers. The district of Udham Singh Nagar, located in the Terai region of Uttarakhand, borders Uttar Pradesh and Nepal and has a population of approximately 1.7 million. The case has drawn widespread condemnation and highlights ongoing concerns about violence against women and children in India.
