Comedian Frankie Boyle and former First Minister Humza Yousaf are among prominent figures backing a 'Reclaim Our Streets' rally in Edinburgh, set for Saturday afternoon at Montgomery Street Park. The event, organized by Stand Up to Racism Edinburgh, follows a series of alleged knife attacks that Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said appeared motivated by “anti-Muslim hatred.”
Details of the Alleged Attacks
A 36-year-old man appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday charged with five counts of attempted murder “aggravated by reason of having a terrorist connection.” The incidents began in Sighthill at about 8:50pm on Friday, where two men were injured. Police then reported three other men allegedly attacked in the Telford Road and Leith Walk areas.
Counter-terrorism officers were brought in to investigate, with Starmer commenting on the apparent anti-Muslim motive. The rally aims to show solidarity with minority communities following these events.
Celebrity and Political Support
Frankie Boyle, known for his sharp political comedy, and Humza Yousaf, former First Minister of Scotland, are among the well-known names urging Scots to join the demonstration. The rally is part of a broader response to hate crimes and community safety concerns.
