Former Celtic youth player Ryan Caird has died suddenly at the age of 29. The midfielder, who was highly rated during his time with the Hoops' under-19s and represented Scotland at under-16 level, passed away last week. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
Career and Background
Caird, originally from Cambuslang, moved from Cathkin Secondary School to St Ninian's High School in Kirkintilloch to train with Celtic. He was released by the club at age 17 and later played for Cambuslang Rangers.
Tributes from Club and Family
Cambuslang Rangers led tributes on Facebook, stating: "It's with great sadness that we share the passing of former player Ryan Caird. Ryan was a local Cambuslang boy and former Celtic and Cambuslang Rangers player. Our thoughts are with parents, family and friends at this incredibly sad time. Rest Easy Cairdy."
Caird's mother, Allison Clements, said: "My beautiful boy, we are heartbroken."
Family friend Jamie Carlin commented: "Rest easy to my big cousin. I honestly can't believe writing this, absolutely shocked and devastating news. Going miss you like mad and all your madness along way it. Keep an eye on the family up there and we will try keep it sweet down here. Until we meet again, keep me a seat at the table. Love you always and forever. Only one Ryan Caird."
Kirsty Mcfall added: "I actually can't believe I'm writing this! Ryan Caird, RIP. We used to call each other brother and sister, I'm devastated that your gone. You weren't even 30 years old, I will never forget you and hope you are in a better place now, wee bro."
