Five people, including a 15-year-old, remain in custody as an investigation continues into the death of a newborn baby girl in Sheffield. South Yorkshire Police said it received reports of concern for the safety of a newborn baby in Wincobank in the early hours of Sunday.
Police find baby girl at property
Officers searched a property on Holywell Heights, where they found the baby girl. Despite the efforts of emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Seven people, aged between 15 and 37, were initially arrested on suspicion of murder. Two of them, aged 26 and 37, have since been bailed. In an update on Tuesday, the force said a warrant had been granted on Monday for the further detention of the five people who remain in custody.
Investigation continues
Detective Chief Inspector Tom Woodward, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our priority from the outset of this investigation has been to secure justice for the baby girl at the centre of this heartbreaking case, and we are working round the clock to ensure this is achieved."
He added: "This investigation is complex, with many different parts which are moving fast. As we work to establish answers, we please ask that you avoid speculating around the circumstances of this tragic incident."

South Yorkshire Police officers and specialist search teams will continue to carry out enquiries in the Wincobank area.
