Firefighters were called to a field on the outskirts of Washington, Tyne and Wear, on Monday evening after a blaze took hold. Three fire engines descended on the area and remained on scene for around two hours, using specialist equipment to extinguish the grass fire.
Emergency Response
The emergency call was received by Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service's Fire Control Team at 9.11pm on Monday 6th July. Crews from Marley Park and Washington Community Fire Stations, along with Hebburn Tri Station, were dispatched to the scene in Follingsby.
Firefighting Operations
Pictures from the scene showed huge plumes of dark smoke rising from the area. Firefighters used specialist equipment to tackle the grass fire, which was successfully extinguished. The crews left the scene at 23:00, after approximately two hours of work.
A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We can confirm that yesterday evening (Monday 6th July) three fire appliances attended a field fire on the outskirts of Washington, Tyne and Wear. The firefighters used specialist equipment to extinguish the grass fire. The crews left the scene at 23:00.”
