Firefighters deployed cutting equipment to free two individuals trapped in a vehicle that had overturned on Middleton Road in Royton. The incident occurred near the junction with Hindle Drive at approximately 5:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026.
Emergency Response
Police, fire crews, and paramedics rushed to the scene following the crash. An air ambulance was also dispatched. Witnesses reported that an elderly couple was inside the car when it rolled onto its side. Firefighters cut the couple free from the wreckage before handing them over to paramedics for medical assessment.
Condition and Aftermath
The condition of the rescued individuals has not been disclosed. Photographs from the scene showed Middleton Road cordoned off while emergency services managed the situation. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) stated: “Shortly before 5:10 this afternoon (Friday 17th July), two fire engines from Philips Park and Oldham fire stations alongside the Rapid Rescue Unit from Ashton were called to attend a road traffic collision on Middleton Road, Royton.”
The spokesperson added: “Crews arrived quickly and used specialist equipment to extricate two casualties who had become trapped. They were transferred into the care of North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour and a half.”
