FIFA has launched an investigation after footage circulated online of a popular YouTuber allegedly being racially abused at an Argentina match. The incident occurred during Argentina's Round of 32 clash with Cape Verde on July 3, 2026, at Miami Stadium.
YouTuber Targeted with Racial Slurs
IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Jason Watkins Jr and who has over 56 million subscribers on YouTube, was live-streaming at the match when his stream appeared to capture fans of the South American team aiming racist abuse at him. In the viral footage, a voice can be heard using a racial slur and telling him to "go home". Another allegedly told the YouTuber to "go cry at the zoo".
FIFA confirmed on Tuesday that it is investigating the incident, issuing a statement that said: "FIFA strongly condemns racism, hate and discrimination in all forms. These actions have no place in football, at the FIFA World Cup, or anywhere in society. FIFA was made aware of an incident involving a supporter and #IShowSpeed at Miami Stadium during the Argentina vs Cabo Verde match on 3 July 2026 and immediately initiated an investigation."
FIFA Statement on Unity and Respect
The statement continued: "The FIFA World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world, and anyone who acts in a manner that undermines these values is not welcome in our game."
Sickness Bug Hits Norway Camp
Meanwhile, a sickness outbreak has hit Norway's World Cup camp ahead of their quarter-final clash with England this weekend. Stale Solbakken's side booked their place in the last eight with a 2-1 win over Brazil on Sunday, hours after Thomas Tuchel's men defeated tournament co-hosts Mexico 3-2 at the Azteca Stadium.
Norwegian outlet Dagbladet reports that defender Marcus Holmgren Pedersen was ruled out of the victory over Brazil due to sickness, after striker Jorgen Strand Larsen missed training ahead of his side's opening match due to also falling ill.
Solbakken Confident Situation Improving
Solbakken has confirmed that the sickness bug has spread through the camp in recent weeks, but is hopeful that the situation is improving ahead of facing England. "We've had a few players who haven't been feeling well, but things are getting better," he said. "It's not ideal during a tournament, but we're managing the situation."
The manager added: "Really, only Jorgen has had a fever, though there's been some coughing and rasping here and there. But then again, there's the air conditioning, the flying, the traveling, and all that. There are over fifty of us, so it would be strange if nothing popped up."
Henderson Update from Guehi
England defender Marc Guehi has issued an update on his teammate Jordan Henderson, after the Brentford star was ruled out of the remainder of the World Cup with a broken wrist. Henderson injured himself in a freak accident during England's post-match celebrations following their win over Mexico, slipping while climbing over advertising hoardings at the Azteca Stadium and landing awkwardly on his arm.
The 36-year-old was given oxygen as he was taken off the pitch on a stretcher and taken to hospital. It has since been confirmed that he will undergo surgery on a broken radius and miss the rest of the tournament, but will stay with Thomas Tuchel's squad until the end of their campaign.
Manchester City star Guehi has now provided an update on his injured teammate, telling the Lions' Den: "Hendo's a good man, he's in a better place than he was yesterday. It was obviously scary for him and his family and for everyone else, but we're just glad that he's on the road to a speedy recovery."
