Fan keeps finger in jar after fence accident

A Lincoln City fan has revealed he keeps one of his fingers pickled in a jar after accidentally ripping it off while jumping a fence for a post-match wee. Shane Storr, 38, lost the digit when he hopped over a fence after leaving a match against Bolton Wanderers.

Accident after Valentine's Day match

Shane, a dad-of-six from Leeds, West Yorkshire, attended the home game at the ProAmpac Stadium on Valentine's Day 2026, with tickets bought by his girlfriend as a present. After a few pints, he left the ground and, while waiting for a lift, decided to hop over a 4ft fence to urinate in a bush nearby.

As he hopped over, he fell backwards, catching his wedding ring on the corner of the fence and degloving his left finger. Degloving is a severe injury where the top layers of skin and tissue are ripped from the underlying muscle, connective tissue or bone.

Emergency response and amputation

Paramedics rushed to the scene and administered first aid. They found his lost finger on the floor near a KFC, scooped it up, stashed it in a takeaway cup with ice from the fast food chain, and took it with them to hospital.

Sadly, his finger could not be saved, and he had the remainder amputated on February 17 2026. He opted to take the fleshy stump home as a souvenir. It is now displayed in a jar of rubbing alcohol in his man cave, which he has named 'The Nine Fingers Inn'.

Warning to other men

Shane is urging people to wear silicone rings, saying that if the band catches, it will break and prevent injury. He said: "It was just crazy. I'd cut the game short and I was waiting to get a lift but I'd had a couple of beers at the football and I needed to take a leak. I was just waiting on the streets, I nipped over this fence."

He added: "I've still got the wedding ring, that didn't even snap, and that's caught on the corner of the fence post and it's snagged on it. As I've done that all my body weight has just gone down. I fell backwards down the hill, I looked at my finger and it was completely degloved."

"They found my finger, out opposite KFC, so they ran over and got KFC and they put it on ice in a KFC cup. I just couldn't breathe properly [from the pain], I felt like I was going into shock."

Shane said: "I'm trying to make the most of it, at the end of the day it's a loss but it's not the end of the world. In the end I didn't even have my pee so it was all for nothing."

On a trip to Benidorm on October 3, he got a loading symbol tattoo, joking that he's waiting for his wedding finger to grow back. He said: "I've wanted this tattoo for a long time, pretty much since I had it done, I was thinking 'how can I make this look cool?'. I showed everyone and it's had a great reaction, I wasn't really expecting it. It's funny and it's quirky."

He concluded: "Never wear your gold ring, get a rubber one. I'm looking at getting a silicone ring now because I still want people to know I'm a married man. I always recommend men to get a silicone ring because if it [the same thing] did ever happen the ring will snap off and not your finger."
