A family of three from Moldova died in a horrific car crash in Greece while on holiday, leaving their seven-year-old daughter fighting for her life. Lucia Sârbu, 28, and her husband Constantin Sârbu, 35, along with their infant daughter, were killed instantly when their car collided head-on with a tanker lorry on the road between Nea Moudania and Nikiti in the Halkidiki peninsula.
Crash Details and Immediate Aftermath
The family was driving to a beach when the accident occurred. Lucia and the baby died at the scene. Constantin was cut from the wreckage and rushed to a hospital in Polygyros but died hours later despite medical efforts. Their seven-year-old daughter was airlifted to a hospital in Thessaloniki, where she remains in critical condition.
Victims and Community Response
The family, from Strășeni in Moldova, were described by relatives as close, hard-working, and kind. Local mayor Valentina Casian launched an urgent appeal for donations to repatriate the three bodies. She said: "I urge everyone who can and wants to offer help to contribute, as much as possible, to the accounts opened exclusively for collecting donations, with the family's agreement. Every penny counts, every kind thought, every sharing of this message is real support in these moments of terrible trial."
Investigation and Ongoing Situation
Greek authorities are investigating the cause of the collision. The lorry driver was unharmed. The eldest daughter continues to fight for her life as devastated relatives pray for a miracle recovery. The family had set off for a beach break after the arrival of their second child.
