Expert's Chemical-Free Method to Remove Flying Ants

A pest control expert has shared a straightforward method to eliminate flying ants from your home without using chemical sprays or powders. Stephen Wales, a specialist from Bespoke Pest Control, recommends a simple approach that leverages natural behavior and a vacuum cleaner.

How to Remove Flying Ants Without Chemicals

Wales advises that if flying ants enter your home, you should turn off all lights because insects are attracted to light. Then, open windows and doors to allow the ants to exit on their own. He explains, "They want to be outside." After the ants have left, any dead ants can be vacuumed up, and the vacuum bag should be disposed of in an outside bin.

Preventing Future Infestations

Wales emphasizes the importance of destroying the nest to prevent recurring issues. "If you don't destroy the nest, it will be there for many years," he warns. Nests are often found in safe, undisturbed areas such as flower pots, under patios, beneath decking, under turf, or in debris piles. He notes that flying ants swarm for only a few hours as they mate and breed before starting the cycle again.

Additional Natural Fly Deterrents

Another tip comes from TikTok user Chantel Mila, who suggests placing a lemon studded with dried cloves on a windowsill. This 37p fruit hack is said to repel flies, as they dislike the scent of citrus and cloves. Interior designer Keely Smith explains that lemons release limonene, a citrus compound that interferes with flies' ability to find food, while cloves contain eugenol, a sharp scent that further deters them. The combination creates an intense aroma that confuses and repels flies.
