British Transport Police (BTP) have released images of a woman in connection with an assault on an Elizabeth line staff member at Ilford Station. The incident occurred on May 22 when the woman was challenged for passing through ticket barriers without paying her fare.
Assault Details
Shortly before 5pm, a TfL employee confronted the woman for fare evasion. In response, she spat in the worker's face before fleeing the station. BTP are appealing for information to identify the suspect.

Rise in Fare Evasion Penalties
The incident follows TfL's recent revelation that penalty fares have surged across the network. In the year to March, over 69,000 penalty fares were issued, a 9% increase from the previous 12 months. TfL claims a crackdown on fare dodging led to more than 21,000 cases being reported for possible prosecution, up 19% year-on-year.
Impact on TfL Revenue
According to TfL, an estimated 400,000 journeys are evaded on a normal weekday, costing the transport authority approximately £200 million annually in lost income. The agency continues to enforce fare compliance to mitigate revenue loss.
