A huge blaze has destroyed the roof of a block of flats in Edinburgh. Emergency services were alerted to the fire at Ferrygait Place at around 10am on Thursday.
An image from the scene shows a firefighter on a height appliance hosing down the flames as a massive cloud of smoke billows into the sky. Flames can be seen inside the building as over a dozen paramedics and firefighters stand at the foot of the building.
Roof collapses as flames continue
Footage from the scene shows the roof has collapsed as the flames continue to rage on the right hand side of the building. It remains unclear at this stage whether anyone was injured as a result of the fire.
Some local residents were reported to be sitting on a grass verge outside the building.
Emergency services respond
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.10am on Thursday, 10 September, 2026, police received a report of a building fire on Ferry Gait, Edinburgh. We are assisting our SFRS colleagues as they deal with the incident.”
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 10.07 to attend a building fire at Ferry Gait, Edinburgh. Two ambulances, two special operations response teams (SORT), a paramedic response car and a critical care paramedic were dispatched to the scene.”
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for comment.
