A man believed to be a senior manager at City of Edinburgh Council was caught taking pictures of teenage girls on a train from Glasgow Central to Lanark on Saturday, July 4. Passengers confronted him, forced him to delete the images, and reported him to authorities.
Incident details
The man, described as having grey hair and glasses, was filmed by a female passenger as he took snaps of the girls. She alerted the teens, saying, “Excuse me girls, do you know this man? He is taking pictures of you. I’ve just caught him so I was just wondering.” A commotion ensued, and the woman demanded he delete the photos. He swiped through his camera roll, revealing multiple images of the teenagers.
Another woman grabbed his phone, calling him a “sick f***ing creep,” and passed it to a younger man who attempted to delete the images. The man tried to retrieve his phone, prompting the woman to shout, “Leave that phone alone. Have you got any daughters? They wee girls are sitting there looking absolutely beautiful going on a night out and there is a creep like you taking pictures of them.” The younger man held the phone and demanded the passcode, which the man entered, claiming, “I don’t know what I am meant to have done.”
Police and council response
The younger man announced there were 12 photos of the teens on the phone. Passengers discussed calling the police, but the man was eventually given his phone back as others took pictures of him. He then ran off the train. A City of Edinburgh Council spokesperson said, “Whilst we do not comment on individual colleagues, we’re aware of this incident and will investigate.” British Transport Police confirmed they are investigating and urged anyone with information to text 61016, quoting reference 872 of July 4.
