Dubai murder suspect's victim had prior assault conviction

Brooke George, a 23-year-old British TikTok influencer with around 100,000 followers, could face execution by firing squad in Dubai if convicted of killing fellow Brit Bill Treeby, 26. The victim had a prior conviction for assaulting a woman, according to court records.

Victim's Criminal History

Treeby was convicted of unlawful wounding and common assault at Maidstone Crown Court in December 2023 for an attack on a woman and a man. He received a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. He was also scheduled to face trial next year for conspiracy to supply cocaine, after police seized £80,000 worth of cocaine, cash, and cannabis in March 2024.

Incident Details

George, a former John Lewis shop assistant from Gravesend, Kent, met Treeby online and travelled to Dubai after he arranged a photoshoot. During her second visit in June, she alleged Treeby bought her a one-way ticket, confiscated her passport, and assaulted her when she asked for it back. She claimed she grabbed a kitchen knife in self-defence after an altercation at an apartment. George managed to book a flight home with friends' help but was arrested at Dubai International Airport on 22 June.

Arrest and Detention

George is held at Bur Dubai police station. She alleges she was denied legal representation and forced to undress in front of male officers, calling the experience 'deeply humiliating and distressing.' Her mother, Thereza, said via Detained in Dubai: 'The daughter I spoke to that night was utterly terrified. I firmly believe she was desperately trying to get home and away from whatever had happened to her.'

Advocacy and Official Response

Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, urged authorities to treat the case as domestic abuse and grant George bail. She noted rising reports of women being lured to Dubai with promises of luxury, only to face exploitation and violence. The Foreign Office stated: 'We are in touch with a British woman detained in the UAE, we are supporting her family, and we are in contact with the local authorities.'
