Channel 4 broadcasts the true crime documentary 'Don't Date Brandon' on Thursday night, July 30, at 10pm, following an episode of 'The Digital Detectives' about the murder of Samantha Holden. The two-part series originally aired on Paramount+ in the US and focuses on Brandon Johnson, a man exposed by his ex-wives for abusive behavior.
Brandon Johnson's Crimes and Sentence
Brandon Johnson was charged with assault and attempted kidnapping with intent to commit rape in 2023. He took a plea deal and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, making him eligible for parole next year. He also admitted to 10 counts of attempted first-degree theft, three counts of domestic violence, and one count of entrapment. Six women in three states collectively filed at least 17 protective orders against him for stalking, harassment, threats, and a break-in.
The Ex-Wives Undercover Podcast
Amber Rasmussen and Athena Klingerman, Johnson's ex-wives, launched the 'Ex-Wives Undercover' podcast in 2020 to expose his alleged abuse. They met after Amber discovered Johnson had lied about his first wife being 'crazy' and realized the truth. Johnson faked working for Nike, faked cancer, cheated, and set up a fake co-parenting app.
Amber told US Weekly: “We made a difference—and a big one in multiple women’s lives. That’s why we ended up continuing with the podcast and sharing other women’s stories.”
Athena added: “We made a difference—and a big one in multiple women’s lives. That’s why we ended up continuing with the podcast and sharing other women’s stories.”
They remain close friends and continue the podcast, which now features other women's abuse stories.
