Disabled Man Stabbed in Woodchurch; Man Arrested

A 40-year-old man from Noctorum has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault after a disabled man in his 60s was stabbed outside a parade of shops in Woodchurch, Wirral, on Thursday afternoon.

Details of the Attack

Emergency services were called to Hoole Road at approximately 3:40pm on June 25 following reports of an assault. The victim, who neighbours said is disabled and unable to speak, suffered stab wounds to his shoulder and ribcage. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital, where he remains receiving care.

A large police cordon was established, stretching across the row of shops on Hoole Road, including a Co-op, Sayers, pharmacy, and chip shop. Part of The Meadow, which links Hoole Road with Pemberton Road, was also taped off. Detectives, uniformed officers, and a police dog were at the scene conducting enquiries.

Impact on Local Residents

The cordon caused significant disruption for nearby residents. People living in flats above the shops were unable to leave their homes while police carried out investigations. One man reported being forced to leave his van on a nearby street and carry his tools home on foot because the road outside his house was sealed off.

Several shops within the cordon remained open, but customers were prevented from entering the restricted area as officers continued their work.

Police Appeal for Information

Detective Inspector Andy Schofield said: "An investigation is underway after a man has suffered a serious injury on Hoole Road as a result of the offender’s actions, and is getting the care he needs in hospital. Although our officers have made a swift arrest just hours after the assault, we are appealing to anyone who was on Hoole Road at around 3.40pm to get in touch with police."

He added: "At the time of this incident, it would have been busy with people coming home from work or visiting shops in the area so please contact us if you saw what happened. Knife crime has no place on our streets and it is vital that those responsible for carrying or using knives are found and brought to justice. If you know anything about this incident, or have information about those carrying, storing and using knives in Merseyside, please come forward and we will continue to take action."
