Blerim Hajdarmata, 35, an Albanian national who was deported after raping a woman, has been found living in the town of Rayleigh, Essex, after sneaking back into the UK.
Hajdarmata attacked an 18-year-old woman after a night out in Chelmsford in 2014. He disappeared during his court case in 2016 before being convicted in his absence. The court heard how the victim refused to go back to his home but woke the following day in his bed. The teenager, who had scratches and bruises on her body, managed to flee the property before flagging down a driver for help as Hajdarmata chased her.
Return to the UK and sentencing
After disappearing in 2016, he was found living in Kosovo and was brought back to the UK under a European arrest warrant to be sentenced. He was then deported in 2019 but was found living in Rayleigh in July this year.
According to the Daily Mail, he pleaded guilty to knowingly entering the UK in breach of a deportation order and breaching his sex offender notification requirements by failing to inform police of his return and new address at Basildon Crown Court on Wednesday (August 19).
Details of the 2014 attack
It was previously reported how the Albanian met a woman, from Hornchurch, at a bar in Chelmsford in September 2014. He bought her a drink before inviting her back to his home. Although she refused, the 18-year-old woke up the following day in his bed. She was undressed and covered with scratches, bruises, and bite marks.
In 2017, Essex Police Detective Inspector Terry Balding said: "Hajdarmataj took advantage of a vulnerable woman in the most horrendous and vile way. He has shown no remorse for his actions, which have had a lasting effect on the victim. By fleeing the country during the trial, he put her through more fear and pain."
Sentence handed down
Hajdarmata was sentenced to 16 months behind bars by judge Richard Conley. He will also serve 12 months to run concurrently for returning to the UK in violation of a deportation order.
