A Devoted Father Fatally Stabbed

A murder trial at Cardiff Crown Court has heard the harrowing details of how a devoted father was stabbed in the heart and subjected to racist abuse as he lay dying on a street in Barry.

Kamran Aman, 38, was attacked near his mother's home on Barry Road shortly before midnight on June 30. The prosecution described him as "a devoted husband, a loving father and a cherished son".

The Alleged Attack

Two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, are accused of carrying out the "unprovoked and unlawful attack" as Mr Aman attempted to get into his car. The court heard the youths had been drinking spirits purchased from a local shop and drinking on a train, becoming "intent on violence".

Owen Edwards KC, prosecuting, stated that the 16-year-old defendant first launched the attack before his friend, the 17-year-old, briefly left the scene to obtain a large kitchen knife. He then returned and delivered a single, fatal blow that penetrated Mr Aman's heart.

The prosecution said the pair "left Kamran to bleed to death on the pavement" while concerned neighbours desperately tried to save him. He was later pronounced dead.

Racist Abuse and Aftermath

In a deeply disturbing twist, the court was told that the youngest boy repeatedly used the racial slur "n*****" as Mr Aman lay fatally wounded on the ground. The prosecution stated this remark was "clearly aimed at Kamran".

The two defendants, who cannot be named due to their ages, then fled the scene. The court heard they attempted to clean the knife with bleach before later being arrested on suspicion of murder.

Both teenagers admit manslaughter but deny murder. The 17-year-old has claimed he acted in self-defence and denied using a knife or racist language. The 16-year-old denied causing serious harm or knowing his friend had a knife.

The prosecution contends that both were responsible, stating, "We say both were in it together... and intended at the very least he suffered really serious physical harm. We say both, as a result, both are guilty of murder."

The trial at Cardiff Crown Court continues.
