Online influencer and adult content creator Courtney Clenney has reportedly reached a plea agreement that may see her avoid life behind bars over the death of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli.
Judge approval still required
The 30-year-old has been in custody since August 2022 and is currently due to stand trial for the killing. Obumseli died from a knife wound in their Miami, Florida apartment in April 2022.
Plea deals typically mean a reduction in charges or a lighter sentence. The specific terms of Clenney's reported agreement have not been disclosed and still need to be approved by a judge.
Clenney's lawyers have declined to comment, reportedly saying: "We will reserve further comment on the specific terms until they are placed on the record before the Court."
Allegations against Clenney
Clenney, who was 26 at the time of her arrest, denies second-degree murder with a weapon. She is also accused of taking Obumseli's computer from the murder scene after it was missed by investigators, and then accessing it with a password supplied by his daughter.
The couple had been dating less than two years when Obumseli, a cryptocurrency trader, died on April 3, 2022. Clenney was previously arrested for domestic battery in Las Vegas, and police were called to their Austin, Texas home on several occasions.
They moved to Miami at the beginning of the year, and staff and residents of the One Paraiso building where they lived reported multiple domestic disturbance complaints about the couple, who had even moved to evict them.
Stabbing and arrest
Police arrived at their Miami residence around 5pm in response to a call about an aggravated battery when the stabbing took place. Clenney was pictured wearing a blood-soaked robe and sweatpants, while Obumseli was rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the torso and pronounced dead on arrival.
Clenney initially claimed self-defence to officers. She was eventually charged with Obumseli's murder several months later while at a rehabilitation centre in Hawaii.
