Conwy Fire: Residents Told to Stay Away After Explosion Destroys Homes

Fire crews are tackling a major blaze on the Peulwys estate in Old Colwyn, Conwy, following a reported explosion that has ripped apart two properties. The incident began around 12:30 pm, with emergency services responding swiftly to the scene.

Residents reported hearing police and fire sirens as a large response was mounted. Councillor Cheryl Carlisle confirmed there had been an 'explosion and fire', and images from the scene show extensive damage to the two homes.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. A spokesperson for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: 'We were called at 12:41 this afternoon to reports of a property fire on Peulwys Lane. The fire involves two neighbouring properties. All occupants have been accounted for. We advise people to stay away from the area while the incident remains ongoing.'

Cllr Carlisle stated that the families affected have 'lost everything' and are left with only 'the clothes on their back'. The community has rallied to support them, with a collection started at the local community centre. Conwy Council and housing association Carterfi Conwy are arranging emergency accommodation.
