A 63-year-old man has been arrested after driving 'at a high rate of speed' up the driveway of Beyonce and Jay-Z's East Hampton mansion and crashing into the gate, causing significant damage. Police described the man as 'confused' and said he failed to stop at the closed mechanical driveway gates.
Incident Details
The man, whose name has not been released, was driving at speed when he struck the gate of the $26 million (approximately £19 million) property. Police reported that he had previously stopped at another house down the road, asking for a woman by name, but was told she did not live there. Detective Sergeant Jennifer Dunne told Page Six that the man 'has no criminal history and he seemed confused at the scene and after the arrest. He did not make any threats or mention names of the residents. It could just be chance he picked that house if he was having a medical issue.'
Investigation and Arrest
The man was taken to Stoney Brook Hospital, suffering from pain. His car was impounded, and police completed a criminal trespass and criminal mischief affidavit. Dunne confirmed there were 'no weapons found, no notes found, no direct threats made and no direct mention of residents of the house so we are not sure he even knew who lived in that house at this point.' The investigation is ongoing.
Jay-Z's Current Tour
It is not known if Beyonce and Jay-Z were home at the time of the incident. Jay-Z is currently on his 30 Tour, having performed three shows at Yankee Stadium in New York last week, his first solo live shows since 2017, which drew over 135,000 fans. He brought out numerous guests including Blue Ivy, Alicia Keys, Nas, Eminem, Usher, Rihanna, and Beyonce. He is scheduled to perform at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 4, followed by shows at France's Stade de France and Los Angeles' SoFi Stadium.
