Pandemonium erupted as Chile A and Uruguay A descended into a furious full-scale brawl, with punches flying as players from both sides piled in and chaos engulfed the pitch.
Dangerous tackle sparks chaos
What sparked the fight was a dangerous off-the-ball tackle by Uruguayan Joaquín Myszka on Chile prop Emilio Shea. The referee called both captains over before summoning Myszka, who was then shown a straight red card for his dangerous tackle.
Both captains exchanged words before the Uruguayan second-row Ignacio Dotti barged into Chilean captain Clemente Saavedra. This sparked chaos as numerous players from both sides began throwing punches in scenes reminiscent of rugby's amateur era.
Multiple brawls and red cards
The fight broke off into three separate brawls with players grappling and punching each other from all angles. When the brawl eventually came to an end, the referee decided to award a red card to both captains - Saavedra and Lucas Bianchi. Order was eventually restored.
Chile A win in tough conditions
Chile A eventually ran out 33-12 winners in what was the opening game of the Americas Rugby Championship in Chile. The game was played in terrible conditions which added to the sense of niggle throughout the fixture.
