A child was rushed to hospital after suffering a serious injury in an incident involving a family pet, described as a 'freak accident'. The injury was serious but thankfully non-life-threatening, and both the child and the pet are now in good health.
Emergency response in South Kerry
The incident took place in South Kerry, Ireland, on Wednesday. The child's parents provided first aid on the youngster before emergency services arrived on scene, treated and bandaged them, and took them to hospital by ambulance. Police also attended the scene.
A Coast Guard helicopter was redirected from a training exercise to respond to the emergency. The Iveragh Coast Guard crew expressed gratitude for the helicopter support and praised the child's parents for applying first aid after the injury.
Crew statement and recovery
A crew spokesperson shared on social media: "Iveragh Coast Guard were called this evening to an incident involving a child who suffered a serious but thankfully non-life-threatening injury involving the family pet."
They added: "A huge thanks to the Rescue 115 crew, who were just beginning a training mission when the call came in and quickly diverted to assist us. Most importantly, well done to the parents who, despite an extremely frightening situation, kept calm, provided the basic first aid correctly and made the all-important call for help."
The spokesperson concluded: "We hope the young casualty makes a full and speedy recovery. For the privacy of the child and family, we won't go into further details."
