A shocking chainsaw attack has sent waves of fear through rural Perthshire communities as police continue their hunt for a violent assailant who turned a storm cleanup operation into a scene of terror.
The brutal assault occurred near the A93 between Glenshee and Braemar, where a dedicated forestry worker was conducting essential storm damage clearance in the aftermath of Storm Amy's destructive path through Scotland.
Weapon Turned Against Rescuer
In a terrifying twist of events, the very chainsaw being used to clear dangerous storm debris became a weapon of violence. According to Police Scotland, the attacker seized the power tool and launched a brutal assault on the worker, leaving the victim with significant injuries.
The victim, described as a tree surgeon in his 30s, was rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he remains in serious but stable condition. The remote location of the attack delayed emergency response, adding to the gravity of the situation.
Major Police Operation Underway
Detective Inspector Andrew MacKinnon confirmed that a major investigation has been launched, stating: "This was a vicious and calculated attack on a worker simply doing his job in challenging conditions. We're pursuing multiple lines of enquiry and have significant resources dedicated to this investigation."
Local residents have expressed shock and alarm, with many describing the area as typically peaceful and close-knit. The attack has particularly rattled the forestry and agricultural communities who regularly work in these remote locations.
Storm Amy's Dangerous Legacy
The incident occurred during cleanup operations following Storm Amy, which battered Scotland with heavy winds and rainfall, causing widespread damage to trees and infrastructure across the Highlands.
Police have increased patrols in the area and are urging anyone with information, particularly motorists who may have dashcam footage from the A93 between Glenshee and Braemar on Tuesday afternoon, to come forward immediately.
The investigation continues as authorities work to identify and apprehend the chainsaw-wielding attacker before he can strike again.
