A care home nurse who 'frustrated' COVID-19 safety measures by falsifying her workmates' temperature readings has been struck off. Anna Preyzner put staff and patients 'at risk' by 'dishonestly' recording false temperatures during the pandemic, a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) tribunal heard.
Falsified records during pandemic
Temperature checks were implemented to ensure staff were not an 'infection risk', but between March 27-28, 2021, Preyzner falsified the records of two fellow nurses at Lakeland View Care Centre in Heysham, Lancashire. Her dishonesty was uncovered when her colleagues went to enter their latest readings and noticed the form had already been filled out.
There was 'no evidence of actual harm' caused, but the tribunal ruled that if one of the staff had developed a temperature, 'this may not have been noticed and properly addressed'. Preyzner's actions 'breached fundamental tenets of the nursing profession and therefore brought its reputation into disrepute', the panel ruled.
Additional misconduct
The tribunal also heard that during the same shift, Preyzner did not accurately record that a patient, referred to as 'Patient A', had fallen twice, and then failed to inform her colleagues who came on the next shift. The nurse, who has not worked since the 'isolated spontaneous incident', was initially suspended for six months in January 2026 after she 'acknowledged her wrongdoing'.
However, a review hearing found there was 'no evidence' Preyzner had taken 'sufficient steps to address and remediate the misconduct', leading to her being struck off the nursing register.
