Greater Manchester Police have launched a major investigation after a car was deliberately set alight in what is believed to be a targeted attack in Tameside. The incident occurred on Sergeant Mark Stansfield Way in Hattersley, Hyde, on Monday night (June 29), leaving a driveway charred and a front window smashed.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Police and fire crews were called to the scene at around 11:45pm. Officers from Greater Manchester Police and firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended. The driveway was left covered in burnt debris, and a front window was also damaged. No arrests have been made at this stage.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "Officers from our Tameside district are appealing for information after a vehicle was deliberately set on fire outside an address. We were called at 11:45pm to reports of a car which had been set on fire. Officers attended the scene along with colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. No arrests have been made at this stage. It is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public, and investigations are ongoing. Officers are now appealing to the public for their help as we continue to make enquiries into this incident."
Gas Leak Incident the Following Morning
Fire crews were also called out on Tuesday morning (June 30) to a separate gas leak in the same area. A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Firefighters worked alongside partners from Greater Manchester Police and Cadent to make the area safe. No injuries were reported and crews were on the scene for around four and a half hours."
