Horror footage shows the moment a speeding car ploughed through a garden fence towards a swimming pool where a two-year-old girl and five-year-old twin boys were playing. The Chevrolet Camaro smashed into the backyard of a family home in Fort Worth, Texas, sending chunks of concrete and large rocks flying towards the pool.
Crash caught on surveillance cameras
The terrifying incident unfolded at around 7pm on Sunday after police said the driver lost control while speeding along Heritage Trace Parkway in north Fort Worth. Surveillance cameras outside the property captured the dramatic moment the car burst through the wooden fence just moments after one of the children had walked past.
The Camaro then struck a concrete pillar, sending debris hurtling across the garden, before bouncing back onto the road and eventually coming to a stop. Pieces of concrete and large rocks from a divider post narrowly missed the family's two-year-old daughter and five-year-old twin boys. Miraculously, all three children escaped without being hit or injured.
Family thanks God
The children's mum later "thanked God" that her children had escaped the terrifying incident unharmed. The homeowners shared footage of the frightening incident with local news station FOX 4 but declined to be interviewed on camera.
Fort Worth District 4 Councilman Charlie Lauersdorf later visited the family's home to offer his support. Speaking about concerns in the area, he said: "One of my major concerns has been, and residents’ concerns in our area is speeding and distracted driving… to figure out what we as policymakers can do to kind of alleviate some of these sort of issues, prevent some of these issues."
Reckless driving cited
Mr Lauersdorf said the damage caused to the property was a concern, but that public safety was the bigger issue. He added: "This fence obviously, it’s all HOA property. But again, the larger issue though is distracted driving or speeding. Figuring out what happened."
Police have not released the identity of the man who was driving the Chevrolet Camaro. The homeowners described him as a young man in his early 20s, while police said he was cited for reckless driving. The family said there was also a passenger inside the car who was taken to hospital with a gash to the head.
