A man in his 20s has been arrested following a public disorder incident in north County Dublin on Saturday night, during which a car was driven at a crowd, leaving four people injured, including three teenagers.
Incident details and injuries
Gardaí responded to a public order incident at Harbour Road, Skerries, at approximately 9:45 pm on July 18. A large group of youths had gathered, and an altercation broke out. During the disturbance, a car was driven at several people, causing injuries.
Three teenagers—two females and one male—were taken to Beaumont Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A fourth male was later reported injured, but no update on his condition has been provided.
Arrest and court appearance
A man in his 20s was arrested on Sunday, July 19, in connection with the investigation. He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in north County Dublin and is due to appear before Balbriggan District Court on Monday, July 20.
Political response
Fianna Fáil Senator Lorraine Clifford-Lee, a family friend of one of the injured young women, expressed shock and sadness. She said: “I am deeply shocked and saddened by the horrific incident that took place on Harbour Road, Skerries, yesterday evening. There is absolutely no place for this kind of violence in our community.” She added that the injured teen has since returned home from hospital.
Senator Clifford-Lee noted that “tensions have been building” in the area due to a significant increase in young people visiting Skerries. She has spoken to Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan and requested additional Garda resources be deployed as soon as possible.
Appeal for witnesses
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
