Police have issued an update after a car crashed into the front of a nursery in Ellesmere Port. Emergency services were called to Sunny Days Nursery on Vale Road at around 9:54 AM on Monday, June 15, after a car drove through a fence and into the outdoor play area.
Initial Reports and Arrest
Originally, Cheshire Police stated that a two-year-old boy was taken to hospital with what were believed to be serious injuries, with two other children also suffering minor injuries. A 63-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Update on Injuries
However, later that evening, the force confirmed the boy's injuries were "not as serious as first thought." A spokesperson for Cheshire Police told the ECHO that the boy remained in hospital overnight as a precaution. The arrested woman has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Nursery Operator Statement
A spokesperson for Partou UK, which operates Sunny Days Nursery, expressed distress over the incident, stating: "This is an extremely distressing incident and our immediate focus is supporting the children affected, their families and our colleagues at the nursery." They confirmed three children were injured, with two sustaining minor injuries and one receiving medical treatment. The nursery is cooperating with police investigations.
Witness Account
One father, whose child was injured, described the chaotic scene: "My partner rang me and told me what had happened. I ran around straight away and there was police and ambulances everywhere." He praised nursery staff for their quick response, saying they were "exactly where they needed to be, making sure the kids were all OK." His child escaped with minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.
