Joshua Foster, a 37-year-old British father, has been fined €3,000 (£2,500) at Paphos District Court in Cyprus for causing the death of his two-year-old son. The boy fell nearly 40ft from the fourth floor window of a hotel on July 12.
Guilty plea and court appearance
Foster had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of causing death through a reckless, rash or dangerous act. He arrived at Paphos District Court just before 11am on Friday accompanied by his lawyer, Alexandros Alexandrou.
The court previously heard that Foster thought the window was closed when he placed the boy on a sill to show him the view of a waterpark and "lost control" of him.
Sentencing and impact
The fine was handed down by the court for causing the death of his son. The case has drawn attention to the dangers of unsecured windows in holiday accommodations.
