Bradley Belhomme, a 20-year-old from Salford, is in a coma and fighting for his life after a quad bike collision with a coach during a lads' holiday in Zante, Greece, on July 3, 2026. His family has issued an urgent appeal for financial and emotional support as they face mounting medical costs and uncertainty.
Details of the Accident
Bradley had arrived in Zante on Thursday, July 2, with a group of friends for a holiday. The next day, the group rented quad bikes to explore the island. While riding with a friend, Bradley's quad bike collided with a coach. He suffered severe head injuries and was initially treated at a local hospital before being transferred to a specialized facility in Attica, Athens, on the mainland. The friend he was riding with was also hospitalized.
Family's Ordeal
Bradley's mother, Leanne Rabbetts, spoke to the Manchester Evening News, describing the harrowing experience. She said: "He went on the holiday on Thursday and everything was fine. I spoke to him when he arrived, but then on the Friday afternoon I got the call saying there had been a crash." She added that she flew to Greece on Sunday and has been at his bedside daily, but can only visit for 30 minutes at a time. "The doctors tried to bring him out of a coma yesterday but he wasn't responding. Then they tried again to wake him up today [Monday] and he had two fits. They don't know if it's a bleed on the brain, so he has to have an MRI scan to see what has happened and the damage to his brain, but he isn't responding at all at the moment."
Financial and Logistical Challenges
The family suspects Bradley may have had travel insurance, but they cannot access his phone to confirm details. They have contacted the British Embassy for assistance. Leanne noted: "All I really know is that he's been on a quad bike with his friends, and they've all rented them. As he's turned around a corner, I've been told there's been a crash with a coach." Bradley's uncle, Adam, highlighted the financial strain: "Because of the head trauma, we don't even know when he will be able to come home or the situation. We can't do anything. We are just waiting for the scan and trying to make sure everything is covered at the moment, because if the insurance is invalid it's a big bill."
Community Support
Friends and locals have rallied around the family, launching a GoFundMe campaign and organizing charity events and sponsored walks to raise funds for medical expenses. Adam said: "The local community and friends have all donated and have been brilliant. Bradley is a loveable lad who has gone away to have a lads' holiday and enjoy himself. He's a hardworking boy and unfortunately, being young, you often make the wrong choices." The family remains in limbo, awaiting scan results and hoping for Bradley's recovery. The GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with costs.
