Boy dies in Essex lorry collision; man arrested

A man has been arrested after a young boy died in a collision with a lorry in Essex, police said. Emergency services were called to Epping Road in Ongar at around 4.20pm on Friday, where they found the injured child. He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Arrest and bail

A 48-year-old man from Derbyshire was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving. Essex Police confirmed he has been released on bail until mid-September while investigations continue.

“The child sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital where, sadly, he died. His family are being supported by specialist officers,” an Essex Police spokesperson said. “The lorry driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injuries by dangerous driving. The man has been released on bail until mid-September while our investigation continues. The road was closed whilst we carried out enquiries at the scene.”

Appeal for witnesses

Police are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward. The investigation is being led by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. Officers urge anyone who was driving in the vicinity at the time and may have captured footage to contact them.

“If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us,” the spokesperson added.
