Boy, 12, critical after car hits him outside Sunderland Morrisons

A 12-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being struck by a car outside a supermarket in Sunderland. The incident occurred on Doxford Park Way in Doxford Park, where the boy was crossing the road outside Morrisons when he was hit by a white Vauxhall Mokka on the westbound carriageway.

Emergency response and current condition

Emergency services attended the scene and the boy was taken to hospital for treatment. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a woman in her 40s, stayed at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries. The collision happened at 6.50pm on Tuesday, August 11.

Police appeal for witnesses

Officers are investigating the collision and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone with dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the boy being struck.
