James Bond Fanatic Sentenced to Indefinite Hospital Order for Stalking Barbara Broccoli
Bond Fanatic Gets Indefinite Hospital Order for Stalking Broccoli

Daniel Wilson, a 37-year-old James Bond fanatic, has been handed an indefinite hospital order after conducting a “relentless and disturbing” decade-long stalking campaign against movie producer Barbara Broccoli. The obsessive fan bombarded his victim with hundreds of menacing emails, messages, and voice notes, forcing Broccoli to abandon her family home of 20 years and relocate to a secret address.

Details of the Stalking Campaign

Wilson left an audio message on Broccoli's mobile phone on Valentine's Day 2025, in which he repeatedly sang “I've got murder on my mind,” breaching a previously imposed restraining order from 2017. He admitted stalking involving serious alarm or distress between April 1, 2022, and February 14, 2025, as well as two charges of violating the ban on contacting Broccoli. Wilson also pleaded guilty to affray and criminal damage for using a hammer to smash car and hospital windows in December 2023.

Court Sentencing and Impact

At Southwark Crown Court, His Honour Judge Christopher Hehir described Wilson as “profoundly mentally ill” and imposed an indefinite hospital order along with a lifelong restraining order. The judge expressed concerns that Wilson would relapse if released into the community given his current health. “This poor woman lives in a state of terror and apprehension as a result of Mr Wilson's behaviour,” Hehir said.

Arabella MacDonald, prosecuting, stated that Wilson's messages “went from the strange to the sexual to the threatening.” In a victim impact statement, the 66-year-old Broccoli described the offending as “corrosive” and said it undermined her confidence. “I am fatigued by being constantly on guard. The long-term effect of Mr Wilson's harassment is chronic psychological strain—I am in constant fear for my personal safety, always on edge and looking over my shoulder,” she said.

Background on Broccoli and the Bond Franchise

Broccoli, daughter of Albert “Cubby” Broccoli who first brought James Bond to the screen in the 1960s, took over creative control of the spy franchise in 1995. Together with her half-brother Michael G Wilson, she produced the last nine Bond films, including Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Spectre, and 2021's No Time to Die, in which Bond was killed off. In 2025, it was announced that Broccoli and Wilson would hand over the James Bond reins to Amazon MGM Studios.
