West Midlands Police are investigating after a 60-year-old man was stabbed by a gang of masked men in Birmingham. The attack occurred on St Saviours Road in Alum Rock at around 11.55pm on Tuesday, July 7.
Victim in Hospital After Attack
Police confirmed the victim remains in hospital today. Officers believe he was attacked by a number of men described as Asian and wearing masks. The investigation is at an early stage, with forensic and CCTV enquiries underway.
Police cordoned off the area, and a substantial emergency service response was reported during the early hours, including several police vehicles and ambulances spotted by local residents.
Police Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Mahon of Birmingham Police said: “We understand this is worrying for people in the area, and local officers will be remaining there to speak to anyone with concerns over the coming days.” He added: “There is currently nothing to suggest any connection with any other recent incidents in the area, but we are keeping an open mind about the motivation for what has happened.”
“Our priority right now is identifying those responsible and bringing them in to custody as quickly as possible, and officers have been working overnight to gather evidence and speak to potential witnesses.”
Witnesses Urged to Come Forward
Anyone who saw what happened or has footage from the area is urged to contact West Midlands Police. The force added: “We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam or doorbell footage.”
